Research

I am interested in exploring notions of social complexity, human-land interactions, conceptions of time and place, and human intentionality in prehistory and in the present, as well as questions of national/regional, ethnic, indigenous, and gendered identity. My current work on precolumbian Terra Preta sites in the Central Amazon brings together these interests in a project that aims, through archaeology and ethnography, to bring together contemporary and past conceptions of land, place, and space in order to build biographies and geographies of people and places.
