Courses

Each semester the Department of Anthropology offers courses that fulfill the undergraduate major requirements for introductory coursework in archaeology and sociocultural anthropology, and upper division coursework in methods, archaeology, biological anthropology, and sociocultural anthropology. Every spring the department offers the required introduction to biological anthropology and upper division history of anthropological thought. Other topical courses are offered every semester, and many of these fulfill the American Cultures requirement. On the graduate level, faculty offer a variety of topical seminars, area, and methods courses as well as the seminars required of first year graduate students.

The Current Course Listing gives brief summaries of courses to be offered in the current or upcoming semester. It provides more details on graduate seminars taught under general topical titles.

To get a sense of the kinds of courses taught over the last few years, the Course Listing Archive maintains descriptions of courses offered in previous terms. Please note that there is no guarantee that any of the topical courses listed will be offered in the future.

The established courses regularly taught in the department are included in the Course Descriptions, whether they have been offered in recent years or not.
